*Cardi B has been ordered to halt attempts to collect on millions owed to her by blogger Tasha K as part of a defamation suit the rapper won earlier this year.
As a result of Tasha K’s recent bankruptcy filing, a Georgia judge ordered Cardi to cease her collection efforts, according to court documents obtained by RadarOnline.com. Tasha’s pending legal matters were placed on hold until the Chapter 11 case was resolved, the judge declared.
Cardi sued the popular YouTuber [real name: Latasha Kebe] after she created videos accusing the hip-hop star of being a drug-addicted former prostitute with an STD.
Cardi testified during the trial that she suffered extreme emotional distress and her marriage to Offset was affected. We reported previously that a jury in Georgia ultimately found Tasha K liable on four counts and awarded Cardi B $4.05 million in damages.
Cardi has so far been able to collect thousands from third parties but last month, Tasha filed for bankruptcy in Florida Court so the “WAP” rapper must pause collection attempts.
The Neighborhood Talk first reported that Tasha had to list her assets as part of the requirement to file for bankruptcy. Some of her assets listed include a Chevrolet Silverado worth $46,000, furniture worth $2,750, and clothes totaling $2,500. The blogger has only $95 saved in her Chase account, according to The Neighborhood Talk.
Tasha allegedly owes an unknown amount of debt in back taxes to the IRS and $6,000 to American Express. Her other debts include an unknown amount of legal fees, $3,000 to Bank of America, and $5,000 to Discover Bank.
Tasha and her partner, who are identified as content creators, earn about $30,000 a month. The couple, according to court documents, have an average monthly expense of just $22.
In 2019, Cardi B filed a lawsuit against Tasha, who’s known legally as LaTasha Kebe, as Blavity previously reported. The Grammy-winning artist said the YouTube blogger posted multiple videos making false accusations about her. The court ultimately ruled that Tasha was liable for defamation, invasion of privacy and intentional infliction of emotional distress.
Tasha, however, told the court that she doesn’t have money to pay the debt. Cardi B is still looking for Tasha to pay the $4 million she owes. The blogger is still required to pay despite filing for bankruptcy.
Tasha filed for an appeal after she was ordered to pay, but she lost her appeal when the court said she didn’t provide sufficient evidence to prove how there was an error in the trial. “Defendant Latasha Kebe asks for a new trial, saying that there was insufficient evidence for the jury verdict against her. But as she all but admits, she didn’t make either of the required post-verdict motions in the district court,” the appeals court wrote. “She never tells us where in the 5500-page record the district court’s alleged errors can be found. Because Kebe’s brief falls well short of what we require, she has abandoned this argument.”
The YouTuber apologized to Cardi B after losing her appeal in March. “We lost the appeal against Cardi B sad day. But I’m gonna be alright,” she wrote on social media. “I appreciate all your love [and] support. Throughout this fight. Today we throw in the white flag. What happened will never happen again. To Cardi [and] her team, I apologize sincere[ly]. We live and learn.”
