It was always Kels!”

Joe believes R. Kelly still owns the R&B crown, regardless of how controversial his name has become.
During his appearance on the R&B Money podcast, J. Valentine asked Joe whether he ever considered himself part of the King of R&B conversation at the height of his career. Joe immediately gave the title to his former Jive Records labelmate:
“Nah, Kels was still out there, man. It was always Kels, to be honest with you.”
Joe compared Kelly’s dominance to Michael Jordan’s championship run and explained that his relentless hitmaking pushed him to become a better artist. He also praised Kelly’s ability to sing, write, produce and play instruments while acknowledging that they eventually created their own separate lanes.
Can R. Kelly’s music be separated from the man when discussing the greatest R&B artist ever?
